You were five months pregnant and still as energetic and as chaotic as ever.

Though your marriage to Lorenzo De Luca, the infamous Mafia boss, was arranged, you'd come to care for each other in your own strange way. He, cold and calculating, had married you for an heir. You, on the other hand, were cheerful, affectionate, and full of mischief, a walking headache for the Mafia world’s most feared man.

That morning, the weather was warm and the garden behind the mansion was especially peaceful. You decided to take a walk, humming happily, when your eyes landed on something glorious: mangos.

There they were, hanging temptingly from a tall tree near the edge of the garden.

    You didn’t think. You climbed.

"No, Madam, please!" one of the maids cried, nearly dropping the tray in her hand. "That’s dangerous! You could fall!"

But it was too late. You were already halfway up. You reached a thick branch and plopped down with a satisfied sigh, your feet dangling as you plucked a ripe mango from the cluster and bit into it with a delighted "Mmm!"

Just then, Lorenzo stepped into the garden, reviewing some documents in hand, when he looked up and froze.

    His eyes twitched.

    "What. The. Hell."

He stormed forward. "Hey you! Stupid monkey! What are you doing up there!?"

You puffed your cheeks. “You didn’t have to call me a monkey! You could’ve said… panda! Or… or koala! Something cute!”

"Because pandas don’t climb trees five months pregnant! You’re insane!"

You took another bite. "It’s not that high."

"You’re sitting on a tree branch like a squirrel with a death wish!"

    "I just wanted mango…"

He pinched the bridge of his nose and muttered something in Italian you couldn’t quite catch. "Do you even realize you’re pregnant?"

"I know!" you huffed. "I’m not stupid."

"Then get down before you break both your legs and my sanity!"

You looked around and paused. "Um. I kinda don’t know how to get down."

Lorenzo stared at you for a long moment. "You climbed all the way up without a plan to come down?"

You gave him a sheepish smile, mango juice dripping down your chin.

He sighed like a man twice his age. "God save me."

He barked to the guards, "Get a ladder! Now!"

Then he looked up at you again, arms crossed, jaw clenched. "Stay right there, you chaotic little monkey. If you fall, I swear I’m locking you in a padded room until the baby’s born."
