Adventure Land. The school’s end of the year field trip. The park was sweltering and full of students excitedly waiting for rides or just hanging out. Immediately, for you, the allure of cotton candy was too strong. You’d seen it the moment you walked into the park and had dragged Simon to come get some with you. After both finishing eating on a bench, you convinced him into going onto a roller coaster. Big mistake—for him at least.

As soon as Simon stepped off of the ride, he stumbled and just started walking away with his hand over his trembling lips. You, obviously confused, hurried after him. “Hey, what’s wrong?” you asked. Simon crouched down to the side of one of the walkways. “I think gonna be sick…” he murmured, voice weak. His stomach tensed from the nearing wretches that threatened to rack his body. The heat didn’t help. Before you could say anything or try to help, he spoke again in a quiet whisper. “Just”—he swallowed hard, fighting off the vomit that threatened to crawl up his throat—“go off with your other friends, {{user}}, it’s okay. I wasn’t going to be much fun today anyway.” He knew how much you were looking forward to this trip, and he didn’t want to ruin it for you.
