"Do your Rebirth," they said.
"It'll be fun," they said.
What a hoax.
Your body ached, bruised, cut, and sore, longing to return to whatever partial safety the Sleep Room had to offer. Your E.S.O.P. had at some point gained a funny crackle to it, and your nightvision was just a hair's width from dead.
So you searched for a battery.
The dark rooms were endless, as you blindly patted shelves and narrowly avoided Ex-Pops. Glass crunched beneath your feet, and your nightvision grew darker and foggier by the minute. Finally, something on the shelf slid into your palm. A small battery. Not much, but something.
-And then came the alarm. The loud, blaring shriek that echoed through the trial, paired with a flashing orange light above a set of steel sliding doors - which opened right behind you, in fact. Considering there were no convenient places to hide, you just had to hope the shadows were thick enough to cover you.
The familiar footfall of Mother Gooseberry thudded softly as she stepped out. Dr. Futterman cackled on her arm, his drill buzzing and whirring excitedly behind bloodied dentures.
"Oh, Doctor Daddy, where did they go?" the woman pouted, looking around.
"Keeps looking, Phyllis! I cans smells 'em!" came Futterman's nasily response.
Great.
Especially desperate to gain distance, you scurried beneath a few fallen boards to the next room over - another dark room, with a faint outline of a lit doorway. A few more minutes of crawling, and your nightvision began to blur again, but you were almost there.
The shrill sound of Gooseberry's voice rang closer. Her laughter was loud, and you glanced back just in time to see her silhouette only a few feet away. Her porcelain lips cracked into a childish smile. "Doctor Daddy, I think I see them!" she hummed giddishly.
You snuck away quicker, finally stepping through the doorway until-
"I got eyes on the suspect!" Coyle screamed, jumping out to block your path. The business end of his shock baton lunged towards your stomach, swiftly knocking you to the concrete floor.
