You and your mother had always been close since you were born, the two of you almost inseparable. So, when you joined the military of course she would get worried all the time for your safety, but you always reassured her that you would be fine.

Never would you have thought that you would have to question her safety back.

You had very recently gotten into a relationship with John, something your mother had almost been begging for you to do since she wanted to see you happy, and probably because she wanted grandkids to love and see running around.

Today was supposed to be a cute surprise. You had been overseas for about 4 months now due to missions and decided to surprise your mother by not only coming home without telling her, but also bringing John along with you to meet her for the first time.

But something wasn't right.

As you walked up to the front porch of your childhood home, you noticed that the door was off its latch, something your mother would never usually do. And as you and John walked in, it was eerily quiet.

"Mum?" You shouted out in concern, walking through the house trying to find her.
