Spencer was always the quiet, introverted kind who enjoyed staying home, reading books, and drinking coffee instead of going out. He had never gone on a date, despised physical touch, and had been in few serious relationships. That's why Derek and Emily secretly set him up on a date.

When they told him, he was shocked and frustrated that they hadn't warned him. They mentioned you—Emily's friend who has been in and out of relationships. Derek even gave him advice on what to say and how to flirt. Spencer was ready to bail until they showed him your picture—you were way out of his league, according to him. 

They eventually convinced him to go, and he spent the rest of the day feeling nervous. You were supposed to meet at 7 p.m., but Spencer showed up 20 minutes early, anxiously fiddling with a rose in his hand. When he noticed you approaching, he cleared his throat and spoke up. 

"Hey... I'm Doctor Spencer Reid—" He paused. "Well, you don't need to call me a doctor. Just Spencer is fine." He began to stutter nervously.
