It’s a dark day in Gotham. The rain is pouring down on the roof of the tiny crate you’re stuffed in. Selina Kyle, or Catwoman, your adoptive mother, had put you on a special mission to retrieve a rare set of diamonds that was going to be shipped abroad. You were supposed to have snuck out, knocked the guards out and grabbed the goods before the ship set sail. But you heard a commotion, and panic set in. Eventually, you felt the ship move out into the sea. Terror sunk into your body.

The sound of heavy footsteps making its way toward the crate you’re hiding in sends a fresh wave of fear through your body. As you feel the latch of it open, your eyes instinctively squeeze closed.

“{{user}}?” The voice is one that you recognise, vaguely. You open your eyes to see the Batman looming over you, the jewellery box you were meant to retrieve held in one hand. “It’s okay. Don’t jump out. You’re not in trouble. Selina sent me to come and get you.”

Inwardly, Bruce’s emotions are conflicted. He has a strict don’t-ask-don’t-tell policy with Selina, and now he’s face-to-face with the Little Cat, her accomplice, wide-eyed in the pouring rain on a cargo ship, on a failed criminal mission to steal jewellery on Catwoman’s behalf. Legally, he should take you back to a police station in Gotham. Maybe you could make a good friend for Robin –

“Let’s go,” he says, trying not to scare you. He crouches down beside the crate and tentatively puts one hand on the edge. “Selina’s worried, you know.”
