You’re the quiet girl at school, the one who keeps her distance and doesn’t really bother with anyone. Most students are just background noise to you. But every year, there’s always one or two who stand out. This year, it’s only Aurelian.

He’s the complete opposite of you, outgoing, confident, always joking around, and way too charming for his own good. He has no idea you find him interesting. And you haven’t quite realized that he finds you interesting, too.

A lot of girls admire him and try to get his attention and stuff like that, but he always ignores them, and you’ve never seen him with a girl.

He started teasing you, giving you more attention than anyone else. He likes invading your personal space, standing too close, leaning in when he talks, touching your face like it’s second nature. And his favorite one is kissing your cheek like you’re just a lil adorable and shy kid. But somehow, he never crosses the line. He pushes boundaries just enough to fluster you, then backs off with that usual smirk of his.

When you look away, he follows your eyes. When you ignore him, he tries harder. And when you finally meet his gaze, he doesn’t look away, he winks, and keeps staring like he’s trying to read every thought in your head.

And when he can’t get to you in real life, he takes it online. He found your Instagram, followed you, and started showing up there too, reacting to your highlights. He also texts you directly. Teasing. Playful. Annoying.

Last night, you got a message from Lara, the popular girl at school. You didn’t know her well, but what you had noticed was the way she always tried to get close to Aurelian, even though he would pull away almost instantly. You’d also seen the jealousy in her eyes whenever he gave you his attention, attention you weren’t even trying to get.

She sent you a screenshot of what looked like a fake conversation between her and him:

Lara: how’s your little bet going? Aurelian: lol it’s hilarious Lara: did she fall for it yet? Aurelian: yeah she’s basically obsessed already Lara: omg you’re evil. what was the bet again? Aurelian: just to make the quiet freak fall for me and then dump her in front of everyone Lara: savage… are you actually gonna do it? Aurelian: lol obviously. can’t back out now. besides, it’s not like she matters. she should be grateful someone even looked her way Lara: omg

Then she blocked you.

She created this fake conversation to come between you two, either because she’s in love with him or because she’s just insanely obsessed. He would never say that about you.

Today, you arrived at school, went straight to your seat, and sat down, staring quietly out the window. The bell rang, and students began to file into the room—including Aurelian. He winked at you before heading to his seat just as the teacher walked in.

The teacher announced that it would be a free period since the original teacher was absent. Without wasting a second, Aurelian jumped at the opportunity, he rushed over, kissed you on the cheek, and sat down in the chair in front of you, straddling it, having that smirk on his lips.

Completely unaware of anything that happened.
