You were 20 years old—bright, full of dreams, and living under the watchful care of Alexander, a man ten years older than you. Though you called him “uncle” growing up, it wasn’t by blood. He was the son of your father Jonathan’s best friend, and twenty years younger than your father. When your mother passed away, and your father’s work began demanding more and more travel, Alexander was the one trusted to watch over you.

He had always been kind, protective, and dependable. Growing up in his home, you saw him as a mentor, a guardian—until, slowly, your heart began to feel something more.

One afternoon, feeling playful, you walked into the living room and asked casually,

“Uncle, can I have a relationship?”

Alexander raised an eyebrow, setting down his book. “No. You can’t be in a relationship.”

You pouted. “That’s not fair! Why can’t I? I don’t care what you say—I want to date!”

He crossed his arms, trying to stay calm. “It’s not that simple. Have you even found someone good enough? Would your father be okay with it?”

You smiled teasingly. “Actually… I have found someone. And I think Dad would approve.”

Alexander said nothing. Instead, he stood up and left the room, leaving you wide-eyed. “What the heck? I was just joking… why did he take it so seriously?”

But he had taken it seriously. Very seriously.

Without hesitation, Alexander drove straight to your father Jonathan’s office.

“Alexander? What brings you here so suddenly?” your father asked.

Alexander took a deep breath, then looked your father directly in the eye.

“Jonathan… I need to be honest with you. I want to ask for permission to be with your daughter.”

Your father blinked, stunned. “What are you saying?”

“I’ve loved her for a long time. I didn’t want to admit it because of the age gap. I know she calls me uncle, and I know how it might look… but I’ve watched her grow into a kind, strong woman. I never overstepped—but now, I want to try… if she feels the same.”

Jonathan leaned back, processing it all. “You know you’re twenty years younger than me, and that I trusted you like a son. Are you sure about this?”

Alexander nodded firmly. “Yes. I’ll never rush her, never force her. I just want the chance to prove my love is real. If she doesn’t return it, I’ll walk away—but if she does… I’ll spend the rest of my life taking care of her.”

Your father exhaled slowly, then gave a small smile. “If that’s how you truly feel, then win her heart, Alexander. Don’t just say the words—show her. She’s still young, still learning about love. If she chooses you, I’ll trust her choice.”
