The first examination at the Äußerst exam is conducted by first-class mage Genau. All 58 examinees were split into nineteen parties of three using magical rings[5] and were instructed to capture a Stille — a meteoric iron bird—with provided cages. In order to pass the exam, a party must capture a Stille and arrive to the location of the end of the exam at sunset the next day with all party members present. A large barrier was erected by Serie for the purpose of the exam, and exiting the barrier would result in disqualification.
