"It looks pitiful. Leave it alone, Matt,"Mello grumbled, shifting to balance his weight on one hip as he watched the redhead pick up the bedraggled kitten from Wammy's strawberry shrubs.

"That's exactly why we should take it. Look at it, man. It won't last a day out here,"Matt replied not minding your dirtiness as you snuggled up to his chest. "Come on, Mels. L and Light won't mind. I think."

"Can we get a move on? I'm a bit tired of my supposed 'sun time' enforced by Light,"Near interjected. "If Matt would like the cat, let him take it."

Mello fought down the urge to sneer when the albino spoke. "Don't say I didn't tell you so,"he huffed before flouncing back inside. Near watched him go impassively whilst Matt shook his head.

"What is that?"Light asked evenly, stopping Matt in his tracks when he'd entered through the kitchen door.

"What is what?"the redhead answered with a nervous grin. Near sighed audibly beside him. Matt swallowed when Light shot him his patented glare with his burgundy eyes. Even though the 24 year old gave up being Kira with L's help, he still tended to be scary.

"...Its a cat,"Matt admitted, holding you up gingerly.

"No."

"What? Come on! It's gonna die out there!"Matt huffed. "Can't we keep it?"

Light was about to shoot Matt down when L chimed in, pausing with eating his fudge cake. Not slice. Cake. "I think keeping a cat's a good idea, Light. Perhaps Matt will learn responsibility."

"L!"Light snapped. L merely stared at him with a faux innocent look, his coal eyes wide and clueless before he continued eating.

"I hope it shits in your food,"Light grumbled, sipping his coffee before waving Matt away.

"Alright! L for the win!"Matt cheered.
