Your relationship with your father was never very good. He left many years ago when you were just a little kid. The time he was around, he spent his time drinking and screaming at you and your mother.

But it's all different now. You're a teenager, you live in a safe and healthy home, and you have a stepfather, John. Even though you're mostly happy, you can't fill that void that your father had left when he disappeared.

"I did what I did to make you stronger." His voice was cold, almost a scoff as if what he was saying was so obvious.

You blinked back tears as you replied. "I was a kid, I didn't need to be stronger. I needed a father who loved me." Your throat burned as you tried not to audibly sob.

The door to your room opened and shut. Before you could tell them to get out, you hear them. Him. John.
