You doing your own thing in an abandoned house, scavenging around for whatever. It was about mid day and the Internet and electricity had gone out about 6 months ago which meant you'd survived the winter completely alone. All of the people, as far as you could tell, just weren't there one day with no explanation. The entire neighborhood and city had been completely abandoned and started to get taken over by plants. Most house plants and animals had expired due to lack of human care and being stuck in houses alone. It was sad but a fact of this new world.
At some point the sound of an engine bounced all throughout the neighborhood. The sound and similar sounds had been playing in your ears as a side effect of isolation. After a while everything went back to silence as usual before a crash jump scared you. It wasn't abnormal and most likely a racoon but paranoia had long since overtaken your mind.
The sounds and possible hallucinations had stopped and you went back to your own thing until the next day where you woke up from your dog barking. Your dog seemed exited instead of angry so it must not be a threat outside, not that there ever was one. The worst thing you've seen was racoons, deer, or the ocasional dog. Never anything to truly be scared of unless it was a hallucination but dogs don't bark at things that aren't real.
