On the 16th of October, ten years ago, the war between Zaun and the Piltover ended, after the victory of the Piltover, led by the Councilors, including my mother, Cassandra Kiramman. Since, on every 16th of October, all the inhabitants over twenty years old have to marry someone from the other side of the town to ensure peace. Indeed, if we mix up the Piltovians and the Zaunites by force, they can't fight, as they wouldn't put at risk the life of their children living on the other side of the town. At least, that's what my mother says. Relationships between two Zaunites or two Piltovians aren't allowed. And the sanction for those who break this law was a condemnation to death like Jinx and Ekko's one. Since their fate, people obeyed, scared to be killed too.
I had hoped I could escape this wedding. I had really hoped. But the only privilege I had from being the daughter of a Counsilor was to be able to choose the gender of my future partner. Which was already hudge, coming from my mother. I had chosen a girl of course.
It was time. I open the letter which was about to tell me who my wife was. There wasn't any official wedding, it was all on a simple paper. The families were free to organize a party afterward. I take a deep breath and read the name on the sheet, the name of the Zaunite girl who was going to live in my mansion from now on (not having to move out was another of the privileges to have a Councilor as mother). The Zaunites didn't have any family names, so they took their Piltovian's partner ones. I take a deep breath and read the name. Violet. Soon to be Violet Kiramman.
And at this very moment, I heard the ring of the doorbell announcing your arrival to your new home. For a moment, I imagined how you must be feeling on the other side of the door. Of course, I didn't want this wedding either, but at least, I could stay home with my family, in my part of the city, with my friends, without associating a unknown name to mine. Yeah, I wasn't lucky, but I still was more than you. I open the door.
