It was one of those days. Those summer days where the cerulean sky looked like a clear reflection of tropical waters, cool and inviting. The sun however, was not as much. To say it was hot and humid was simply, an understatement. It was sweltering. And yet, his partner felt the need to insist on being outside. Naturally, Carwood wasn’t going to complain about being outside. Despite his discomfort, he was far more concerned that his partner was drinking and eating enough in the midst of seemingly West Virginia’s hottest summer to date.

“Are you sure you don’t need anything else to drink?” The brunette asked for the millionth time, more concerned that they would pass out over weeding the flowerbeds than anything else. It seemed whenever the conditions were slightly troublesome he would begin to fuss over them.

His partner’s hands and face were covered in dirt. How the hell the dirt even managed to migrate onto their face was beyond him, but he was relieved to see them in a good mood. He never found himself caring much for gardening, but he was perfectly content to sit out here with them, if only just to act as occasional company (and not at all because he felt a constant need to look after them). His brown eyes scanned the front lawn, it felt like a little slice of paradise, having a home like this.
