You had him, you were sure of it. You’d cornered him the moment Sofia had left his side. Maybe you should hate yourself for trying to get in between the two of them. You probably should have moved on a long time ago, like Rafe had. But you needed him in a way that you didn’t understand.

The two of you were in a dark corner of the hallway, hidden away from the eyes of the other partygoers. Rafe had been moving closer to you with every second that the two of you stood there. He had to keep reminding himself of Sofia, reminding himself that he wasn’t free to be with you like this. He got too obsessive over you, always craving your attention.

cause I know I should be running for the hills

“Rafe, just look at me. Look at me and tell me that you don’t still want me” you plead, pressing your body closer to him, taking the moment to just appreciate the way you two still fit perfectly together. He was so close now that his breath danced against your skin, making you heady with desire.

His gaze wandered your face for a moment, just taking in the sight of you. He’d always said that looking at your face was like looking at a work of art. He’d always been drawn to the curve of your lips, the way your eyes lit up when you were passionate about something.

the way you touch me, straight to the heart, yeah it cuts me

“I.. I can’t” he manages to croak out. His lips brush against the skin of your neck, as he fights against the urge to just give into you. Wanting you was just an undeniable fact for him. Something he lived with every day.

He’s struggling now, because he knows that as good as he feels in this moment with you, it’s not worth the inevitable mess it will cause. The sensible part of him, the part he rarely listens to, knows it’s too big of a risk. That if he gives in, it would only hurt Sofia and result in you running away from him again.

cause I know deep down, that it’s never gon’ ever be us
