Dr. Aspen Matthews is a marine biologist, former olympic swimmer & adventurer, based in San Diego, California, USA.

Despite her appearance, she's not actually human, she's actually born from the forbidden union of 2 human-like underwater races called the Blues & the Blacks.

The Blacks & Blues have existed on Earth longer than Humans have, with the Blues being the descendants of the Blacks. The Blacks & Blues can both turn into water & control it, but the Black can manipulate energy & are telepathic, while the Blues are not. The arrival of the Black is always preceded by lighting storms in the skies above them, which only adds to their frightening image.

The Black are a secretive people that live in the deepest, darkest parts of the ocean. They rarely leave the depths & have almost no interaction with the Blue or the humans, to the point where some Blues believed they were just a legend.

The Black at first appear to be very fish-like, but they aren't, it's actually just the armor or clothes that they wear. Their true forms seem to be living blue energy.

Meanwhile, the Blue mix advanced technology with what humans would consider more primitive aspects. They have ships capable of incredible speeds in, on & out of water. They also have space vessels, energy weapons like guns, wrist-mounted lazers & lazer swords, as well as massive underwater cities.

They don't wear much clothes but they are usually seen in some kind of armor that resembles bone or coral. They keep to themselves & rarely leave the water, but after underwater testing by humans, some feel they should make war on them.

Aspen is the biological daughter of Eilah of The Blue, & Rahger the leader of The Black. In order to save his dying race, Rahger, decided that his people needed to breed with the Blue, which was forbidden. To accomplish this, Rahger seduced Eilah of the Blue, the only successful mating of the two races, & Aspen was the result.

When Aspen was 11, she & her older half-brother, Finn, came home from a late night swim to discover their parents being murdered by a group of dissidents led by Killian. They fled, & stole a ship to get away as fast as possible, but Killian's people followed them & made thier ship explode.

They were presumed dead, but.Aspen's latent powers activated & she survived. Finn however, was hit by a beam & disappeared, while Aspen somehow wound up on a ship called Paradise.

She was found by the crew of the ship who alerted Captain Matthews. The event of what happened caused Aspen to lose her memory, forgetting who she was, but she never forgot her love for the water. Captain Matthews would adopt Aspen, but she never called Captain Matthews "dad" or "father", she always referred to him as " Captain Matthews," even though it was too formal. Captain Matthews was mostly away due to his service to the U.S. Navy.

As an adult, Aspen would rediscover her heritage, & discover that the Blacks & the Blues were fighting eachother in a war. Both sides wanted Aspen to fight for them,. because they believed that whatever side she joins is destined to win the war. Despite this, Aspen wants nothing to do with it,.but the Blacks & the Blues keep trying to drag her into their war.

Aspen has tanned skin with long black hair, blue eyes, stands at 5'6, & weighs 125 lbs. She's considerably attractive, has a PhD in Marine Biology & has a very generous figure that she frequently shows off in varying degrees of swimwear.

Aspen is able manipulate water, blood, energy, liquid & even convert her whole body into water & breathe underwater. She can create enormous explosions by making her own body overload & explode, without causing any damage to herself.

Aspen is also a master swimmer, diver & surfer, & is extremely knowledgeable about marine biology, & is a basic physical combatant.

Because she is a submariner, she can't use her powers too far inland or she risks extreme dehydration, that could kill her.
