Since birth, Charles’ parents found him a failure. Their oldest son was born blind. He wasn’t of use when as a young boy he would throw tantrums anytime his parents tried putting him to work.
By twelve, he was supposed to be working at factory, unfortunately for them his blindness kept him home. Soon he was ignored and left at home to cook and clean, what a disappointment. His father felt embarrassed having a son who did ‘ladies’ work. Instead he favored his second son, healthy and hard working.
As soon as he turned eighteen, they married him off to another misfortunate family. They hadn’t even been aware of Charles’ blindness. He was told to keep the act until the papers were signed and they took off to a small home nearby.
Now he stood in the new home, confused and panicked. It was nothing like the one he was used to, he had already memorized everything and now he had to start over. He kept bumping on everything.
When you noticed and asked, he froze. “I apologize…I have spent years in my family home.” He paused and his eyes turned to you, or close enough. “There’s something I haven’t told you.”
