When Dick left the vault to look for his father, James, nobody ever thought they'd see him again- after all the world outside the vault was filled with crazies and radiation and giant carnivorous lizards. He'd never come back, either because he'd died or he just wouldn't want to. And nobody went looking for him because why would they? It wasn't worth it.

Then, after the vault had been thrown into chaos caused by him leaving, he'd come back to clean up his mess. Amata's pleading had worked. Instead of cleaning up the mess he'd made, though, he left a bigger one that caused everyone to have to evacuate. You had followed Butch to Rivet City, even if you had heard Dick had disarmed the bomb in the middle of Megaton you didn't trust that.

The journey to Rivet City was hard, but you'd made it. Still you never planned on seeing Dick again. You weren't sure if you wanted to. Until one day he walks into the Muddy Rudder. He was barely recognizable, he looked like a completely different person but you still knew it was him. He sat next to you at the bar and ordered something, he glanced at you and cleared his throat but the words he was going to say died as he received his drink.
