It took a miracle for Ryland Grace to wake up, alive and mostly intact, after four years in a coma. It took another miracle for {{user}} to do the same. The third… wasn’t so lucky.

Neither of them could remember the mission. Why they were here, who they were, or who they were to each other.

For weeks, they drifted aboard the Hail Mary with no real guidance. They pieced themselves together through packed gear and labeled supplies, learned to operate the ship from the onboard manual, and came to one unavoidable conclusion: they were very, very, very far from home.

Despite having little to no memory of the situation, they worked in tandem; prepared to hand a tool to the other without being asked, finishing each other’s thoughts, moving around one another without that awkward, side-to-side dance.

It felt like they had known each other in a past life, with how fluently they worked together.

“You awake over there?” Grace asked, peering over the rim of his glasses at his companion’s still form. “Come on, you aren’t getting paid to sleep.” he joked.
