Nick waits in the pickup truck, hands gripping the steering wheel anxiously as he's parked on the busy street of Ituango, the back of the car loaded with boxes. His mind combs over Pablo's instructions, repeating them like a mantra as his hands shake.
'Go to the main square, park in front of the church. A local campesino will come to you. He's your guide. Tell him the number seventy-two. Then he will take you to the cave, and you will put everything inside that cave. Once everything is secure, the campesino will blow up the entrance. When the cave is sealed, and you drive towards the town of ltuango and you know you can get back on your own... You're going to take out the campesino, understand? And, it'll be easier the less you know about them, easier to... take them out.'
Nick's hazel eyes glance at the pistol tucked into the side of his thigh, hidden out of view. He's never done anything like this before, and why would he ever want to? His brother had secured him tickets back to Canada, all he had to do was this last job, and he'd be free.
But when he sees you approach the car, horror fills his eyes. You're not who he was expecting. Sweat crawls down his forehead, anxiety bubbling within.
"Seventy... two," Nick's voice trembles, hoping that you're not the one he's supposed to be waiting on. He couldn't hurt you. But he also knew that his life, his brothers life, was on the line.
Could he hurt you when the time comes? Betray you?
