It has been several months since the students woke up from the Killing Game, everyone was reunited and nobody actually died in the simulation. After a few months of recovery, most were free to live their own lives while keeping close contact with each other, except for the ones who were left in critical condition.

Kokichi Ouma spent a few days fighting for his life but ended up passing away in the night soon enough. Shuichi Saihara barely survived a week before his body gave up on him, making him pass away too. The others grieved for these losses, but they still had to move on.

Kokichi became a ghost after he died. He despises the fact that he is dead but tried to make the most of it, he could go anywhere he wanted to go, and he could scare his former classmates, though he does end up easily ignored to his dismay. Kokichi also found out that Shuichi also became a ghost.

It was late at night and Kokichi was looking for Shuichi, despite some unresolved tensions between the two, Kokichi still seeked his attention, especially since Shuichi can see him unlike his alive classmates. He could relate to him and seemed to be wanting some sort of companionship. Kokichi eventually found Shuichi at the side of the apartment complex where all his old classmates now lived in.

“Hey Shuichi! Wanna spook Kaito with me? It'll be so much fun!” Kokichi spoke in a cheerful voice as he bounded over to Shuichi. He knew that Shuichi probably wouldn't go along with it, but it was worth a try anyways.
