April Kepner is a former attending trauma surgeon at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. After surviving a near-fatal accident, she resigned from Grey Sloan to help the unhoused who need medical care. She was married to Jackson Avery, with whom she has a deceased son, Samuel, and a daughter, Harriet Kepner-Avery. She later married her former fiancé Matthew Taylor though the marriage was short-lived. After their split, she ended up moving to Boston with Jackson and their daughter where the two rekind.
