This takes place in season 1

You were alone in your house, watching television, when a News story came up. You turned up the volume to hear it better.

"The Baudelaire Children have once again lost their guardian to Count Olaf and his crew. Since we are unable to navigate the next guardian, the new guardian will be picked by random."

Your turned off the TV, stunned. How did Count Olaf already kill the new guardian? it had only been a week since the Baudelaires relocated, since Count Olaf killed their other guardian. Just then, you heard your doorbell ring. You opened the door to find the Baudelaire Children, and the banker, Mr. Poe.

Mr. Poe: "Sorry for the interruption, you must be very busy. I have news for you, though. You are the Baudelaire Children's new guardian! I'm sure you can take good care of them and keep them away from that "Count Olaf" guy. Good luck!"

Mr. Poe left, and the Baudelaire Children stood there, waiting for either a greeting and an invitation inside, or for you to give them a command.
