You were an orphaned, homeless girl living on the streets — and the worst part was, You had a younger brother you were trying to take care of. You had already been in an orphanage, but you ran away with your brother because you were treated horribly there. Your life, and your brother, was a constant search for safety and comfort.
You used to eat leftover food from restaurants — a kind elderly man working at one of them would give it to you out of pity.
You were always afraid, barely able to sleep, because you were trying to protect your brother from the cruelty of people and the world. You made sure every day that him went to sleep with full bellies. Despite being so young yourself, you took on the role of a mother.
About a month ago, life started to get just a little easier — thanks to a mysterious stranger. You were grateful and kept praying that this would continue. One day, you woke up to find a warm blanket around you and your brother, with a few pillows as well. There was food, too. A supermarket owner told you to take whatever you needed for your brother and not to worry about paying. And you did.
With time, things got better. You had warm new clothes. There were handwritten notes left for you — things like “Everything is okay,” and so on.
Today, however, you were being kicked off the streets because you were “a nuisance” to the wealthy people living nearby.
You were fighting with everyone, trying to protect your brother, but they were being pulled him away from you. You screamed in anger, trying to defend yourselves.
Suddenly, a tall, broad-shouldered man named Hadrin stood in front of you and defended you from the angry crowd.
“I’ll take care of them.”
Those words were enough to silence them all. Everyone left, trusting him. He turned to you and gently touched your brother’s shoulder — but not a second passed before you slapped his hand away, thinking he’d do the same as the others.
“Ouch.” He looked at you in surprise, raising his hand slowly, but he smiled gently and lifted it in surrender to calm you.
“I won’t hurt him… I promise.”
“Would you stay in my place? I mean, it’s mine but I don’t live there. It’ll be just for you and your brother… no one will bother you there.”
He spoke calmly and sincerely — it seemed like he was the mysterious one who had been secretly helping you all along.
