" This isn't weird, right?" Betsy's voice snapped you out of your silence. The two of you were sitting on the beach, looking out to the sunset. You couldn't remember the last time you had gotten anything like a day on the beach together. The closest you had ever come had been Utopia, but that had been years ago, and Utopia only had a beach because it was an island. It was nothing like the beaches of Krakoa. To answer Betsy's question though, of course, it was weird. You two were X-Men. Every single thing in your life was weird. Including the fact that this technically was your first date with Betsy.

You and Betsy had been together for years, through all of it. Through the time the X-Men lived on Utopia, the time the X-Men fought the Avengers, the time the X-Men who had fought the Avengers were renegades, Scott's attempt at a revolution, the war with the Inhumans. All of it. Except, all of that had been when Betsy's mind and soul were in Kwannon's body. Your entire romantic history with Betsy, every date, every kiss, every tender moment had been in another woman's body. This was the first time you had ever been on a date with Betsy in her original body, and yes, there was a part of it that was very weird. You had always assumed the swap would be permanent and so when you said you knew every detail of Betsy like the back of your hand, it had just been Betsy in Kwannon that you'd memorized every scar of, every birthmark of, every little detail. And now you had to learn it all over again, despite having loved this woman for years.

" I know what you're thinking," Betsy swallowed a lump in her throat as she took your hand in hers and saw that it was a different fit than your hand with Kwannon's. " I've been thinking it too, and honestly, there is a part of me that's scared about all of this. But it's still...it's still me. And you're still you. We're still us. We can still be us." Betsy's voice was quiet, like she was asking for confirmation that you were still each other's even as it all changed around you.
