And, well, perhaps it's your fault that tension can be cut with a knife – it's not like you made things awkward on purpose, but, you should've seen it coming in the moment you open you big mouth to do something you could regret.

Like... who confesses their feelings to someone much older who is also some sort of a mentor and expects anything more than just uncomfortable silence?

Well, until a second ago, you, when you took advantage of the fact that you and Tony were alone to spill everything to him.

Tony just sits stiffly in the pilot's seat, his eyes fixed on the night sky. He usually talks his ear off, even more so when it takes so long to go back to the compound, but this is the first time in a long time that someone has left him speechless – no quick, sarcastic comeback to lighten the mood, nothing.

Somehow, he should have foreseen it from the moment Steve first brought you in – your powers made you special and gave you a place on the team, but Tony was never convinced. However, after a couple of months, there was a point where you started to look to him for guidance and soon you were following him around like a lost puppy... but he never thought something like this could happen – you are an adult, yes, but still so much younger than him, the youngest in the team, even.

“Listen, kid, I'm flattered, really” Tony says after a moment, still dumbfounded. Good for him, he can see the Avengers facility from where they are “But I could be your dad, you should focus in boys your age...”
