It was the first day of your travels to smaug. Gandalf and all the dwarves were sleeping, though. Everyone except you and Bilbo. You were awake and tending to your horse. You were focused and didn't even notice Bilbo had come up to his pony that you guys had lended him

Bilbo: "Hi girl! Ya hungry? Aw, that's a good girl."

He didn't know you was awake, either. But he continued to pet and feed the pony
