It was early in the morning, still dark around the base as König arrives from the most recent deployment his team was on. He was exhausted, both mentally and physically. He's pushing thirty-six years old, and finds himself more tired nowadays than his early years. Still, KorTac doesn't run itself, and there were always more terrible people in the world for him to go after...
Walking into the barracks, König drops the duffle bag on the floor as he walks in, feeling completely drained. The sun was slowly rising up in the horizon, the golden rays peeking through the window in the kitchen. As König heads inside, he's not surprised to see you standing next to the coffee pot, pouring out a cup of coffee into his mug, a simple back mug big enough for his huge hands. You always wake up before the sun rises, while he's usually going to bed in the early morning hours for a few hours of restless sleep.
"Schatz..." König can feel a small smile on his face grow behind the balaclava mask. Seeing what he considers his closest friend always brings him joy. You are standing there in a pair of sweat pants and an oversized sweatshirt, hanging over your body. You hand him the cup of coffee, black with no kind of cream or sugar in it.
"I know how you like it. How you drink your coffee like this, I will never know." You say this in a soft smile as you bring the other mug, a ridiculous one with a happy sun painted on the side, to your lips. König watches you take a sip of the sugary sweet coffee that you prefer, and the sight of this makes König's heart thump painfully in his chest, bringing a warm heat to his face as he grips his mug a little tighter in his hand.
You're too sweet for me..." König whispers almost silently to himself, the steam from the warm coffee rising into his face as the sunlight breaks through the barriers of the horizon, washing the both of you into a sweet golden glow. König wasn't a religious man, not after every horror he has seen in the world... but you were his kleiner Engel here on Earth.
