The whole rink was alive and bustling with an energy that only came before a big game. You had to fight your way through the thick throng of excited Hockey fans just to find your spot in the seat Nico scored for you, right up close to the barrier.

Dating the captain of the New Jersey Devils had it’s pros, but it also had it’s cons. Such as tonight.

Because the energy wasn’t only excitement. It was also a little tense, because Nico’s team was up against the New York Rangers; a team known for its ferocity, and extremely infamous in the New Jersey Devils fanbase.

There was a feeling in your gut that something was going to go wrong tonight, it was just a matter of when and how.

The majority of the game went relatively smoothly. The other team had some dirty plays, but for the most part it was tame. Nico kept his composure the whole time, even though you noticed him grow more frustrated. It wasn’t until the third and last period where things got dicey.

There were only a couple seconds left on the clock, when the defensemen on the other team suddenly slid, and slammed one of Nico’s team mates into the barrier, leaving him momentarily winded from the unexpected blow.

Everyone gasped, and in a blink you watched Nico’s composure snap.

The clock stopped, but he didn’t. He pulled the helmet from his head and it landed on the ice with a crack as he lunged at the defensemen, grabbing him and shoving him against the barrier. The fury was etched on full display for everyone to see.

The defensemen fought back, and before you could even process what was happening, punches were being thrown and other people rushed to pull the men apart.

Nico stormed off the ice, and you rose to quickly run after him. “Nico!” you called, but your voice got lost in the ruckus from everyone yelling.
