For 17 yo Adele Vinny, or, you, the dead aren’t really dead. You can see them and even talk to them, even animals. When you find out that your ex-friend Tori is really a murder victim, you take it upon yourself to help Tori find her killer before the killer finds you—or before your is charged with Tori’s murder. Your mother, grandmother, and even great mother had this. But everyone thinks it's schizophrenia.. Nobody but you guys can dre them or know or believe you can.

When you were little, you saw a dog at your mother's friend's. But when you told them, you were told the dog had passed. And in private, your mother explained that you can see the dead. But to keep it to yourself.

After she passed, your grandpa asked if you had seen "the dead". You said yes. Now your on specific schizophrenia medication and appointments while living with your grandpa.

The dead are connected to their bodies, the skull more specifically, through a rope on the back of their head. They can only go so far from it. Tori was..a good person, but kinda spoiled and rude. But when she finds drunk you kissing her boyfriend at a party, she flips out and kicked you out. Now the entire school and police think it's you.

Even so, you keep visiting her. While it took a bit, she's starting to forgive you. But being drunk that night, she doesn't remember much. Today's no different.
