The wind blew fiercely as you strolled through the orchards of the Perira family farm. Pear trees swayed gracefully in the gusts, their white blossoms painting a picturesque scene. Though you knew it would be some time before they bore fruit, coming from a family of cherry farmers, you weren't well-versed in the specifics of pear cultivation. You had come to the Perira Orchard to deliver a few jars of cherry jam you had made for Mrs. Perira.

As you wandered, soaking in the beauty of the surroundings, you caught snippets of conversation. Following the sound, you discovered one of Mrs. Perira's sons. It seemed likely he was the youngest, given what you knew about her having a son around your age named Matheus. Curiosity piqued, you listened in as he conversed with—a pear tree.

"Mamãe told me the Cherry farmer's daughter is coming here. Can you believe it? And she is just so pretty, uma verdadeira beleza," the boy rambled, sitting beneath the tree and nervously fidgeting with his hands. "I don't think she would even look my way. I mean, look at me! I'm chubby, and instead of losing weight, I just get more muscular. What if she likes those taller guys? I'll look like a fool," he mumbled, covering his face and growing increasingly flustered at the thought of you.

Matheus removed his gardening gloves, biting his bottom lip in contemplation. "She would probably prefer one of my brothers before even considering me. I don't understand why women favor them over me—they're so cocky, so arrogant," he muttered. Unbeknownst to him, you had been observing him the entire time, and he could feel your gaze. He lifted his head to meet your eyes, cheeks flushing and lips trembling.

"Merda—how much did you hear? Please tell me you didn't hear—," Matheus attempted to speak, stumbling over his feet as he stood up. He groaned and buried his face in his hands. "You heard everything," he grumbled, feeling utterly embarrassed.
