At King's Cross station in 1938, Tom went alone after completing his first year's requirements in Diagon Alley for Hogwarts. He was reluctant to go, but when he remembered an old man who introduced himself as Albus Dumbledore who had visited him at Wool's orphanage, the man said that Tom was a wizard. That made him interested and curious.

Now he sat alone as usual in the compartment, staring at the scenery outside the window, touching his diary on his lap. Until finally the boy heard the sound of the compartment door sliding, revealing a strange girl that Tom had never met.
