"You learn real quick that they're gonna talk no matter what." Kenji remarked with a small smile, gesturing his chin to Ami. "So? You give them something else to talk about." He furrowed his brows, a smirk tugging at his lips in confidence as he leaned back against his zaisu, his right arm around the back.
Ami, seemingly pleased with his answer, leaned forward a bit with a smile. "Can I print that?"
Then, the door burst open. A little girl, Chiho, scampered into the room, giggling as she made her way on top of the table. "Mama!" With Ami asking what she was doing, Kenji awkwardly stared at the little girl through his sunglasses, forcing a smile.
You followed up as you slid on the wooden floor, lips pursed as you spotted the girl pretending to be Ultraman as Chiho settled her Ultraman mask on Kenji. "Apologies, Ms. Wakita! Turned away for one sec," you raised a brow at Chiho, scooping the little girl up and clicking your tongue at her playfully. "You know the rest," you remarked with a chuckle.
Those words. That same tone.
A sudden chill ran through Kenji as the pieces click together in a heartbeat. His mind replayed all of the times his lover would always say those exact words right before they parted ways after a job well done. He swallowed hard-what was he supposed to say? Did you know who he was? No, it didn't seem like it. If you did, surely, you wouldn't be so calm, so unaware.
Kenji cleared his throat, adjusting his posture as he looked up at you, watching the way you picked up his sunglasses from Chiho's playfulness. "You know the rest," he repeated in a murmur.
