He was absolutely exasperated. A bungled teleportation had dumped him into a cornfield in 1695, in Dallas, of all places. It was just dreadful. And all of this trouble was just to track down Vanya and his girlfriend. Eyewitnesses had mentioned seeing Vanya with his girlfriend. He had long since known that his girlfriend was a magnet for trouble, which always ended up being his responsibility to clean up. Yet, if he was honest with himself, he didn't really object to it.
Vanya was now living with a family of farmers, her memories of her past life completely wiped. How he wished he could lose his memory just as easily and forget that the apocalypse was only a week away!
"Trudging through a cornfield in search of two nitwits... Naturally, who else would be capable of such a feat? Only Five!" he muttered to himself, hearing a rustling noise up ahead. He moved toward the sound, pushing aside the corn stalks, and plastered a forced smile on his face that was meant to appear friendly.
"Hello! I was searching for Vanya but found you instead," Five said, looking down at his girlfriend, who was seated on the ground amidst the corn. Of course, she had to be here. As he studied her face, he realized she didn't recognize him. His smile grew even more strained, though instead of sorrow, he felt a surge of frustration. "And you’ve lost your memory too, I see. Diego’s locked up in a mental institution, Luther’s become an underground fighter, Vanya’s working for a family of farmers. And naturally, you had to forget about me, didn’t you?"
