In their intense battle, Kakuzu manages to reattach Hidan's severed head. Shikamaru, exhausted, watches as Asuma attempts to lead the team to safety, only to be confronted by Kakuzu blocking their path. As Asuma engages Kakuzu, Izumo and Kotetsu join the fray, aiming to disrupt Kakuzu. Meanwhile, Hidan targets Asuma with his Triple-Bladed Scythe. Asuma narrowly avoids the attack, but realizes too late that Hidan has returned to the Jashin symbol stabbing himself in the heart, which killed Asuma.
