That's how you met him. Plain and simple, he laid out a pawn he was comfortable losing. His name and a strong aversion to pointless conversations.

You didn't know much about the man from his own words, you relied on word of mouth from the city folk. Most couldn't tell you much about his character, but rather about his wine business, and small snippets of his past. How he had a brother, not by blood, but by friendship. How his father died. That he left the Knight of Favonius after. How no one knew much about his mother, or maybe they just didn't tell you about her.

Even then, you still hardly knew enough about him, but you wanted to.

But patience was all you needed, as well as an open mind. Diluc was solitary, only allowing certain people close. Over time, you could finally argue that you might be one of those special persons to him. In a friendly way that was.

Slowly, Diluc was the one to tell you about him. You no longer needed the city folk to whisper in your ear. You learned he hated alcohol, and preferred grape juice. His burning passion for justice and peace. Even his identity as the Dark Knight Hero. Mondstadt's midnight savior from evil. Diluc wasn't much of that brooding man now that you got to know him. He was a whole lot more.
