The Petrified Forest National Park in Arizona was one of the most beautiful places in the world, at least to you. You loved how vast the deserts were and how the massive, albeit very dead, trees dotted the landscape. You loved to imagine what it would be like if you were back in time and able to see these trees in person...

As you continued on with a hike, you came across a particularly huge grove of massive trees that you hadn't seen the day before. Their leaves were green, a blanket of such a color in an otherwise red, and tan landscape. Each individual tree had branches that hung down in a cone formation.

Running alongside these trees were wide, vast rivers that clearly marked this area, though it wasn't like this before, as a lowland. You decided to go down into this forest and fill up your water bottle, since hydration is important.

As you stepped down into the forest to observe the river, you noticed it was a much wilder place than you had thought it was. Massive tree trunks laid stagnant in the deeper water, and the entire river was choked with vegetation. It was surprisingly clear, though.

Through the thickets of some particularly large ferns you could spot unusual creatures roaming around. Something lithe and scaly, what seemed to be a dinosaur, jumped over a log and bounded off. Something large splashed in the water nearby. You paid no attention to it, not thinking much of the situation you were in.

Suddenly, several small, crocodile-like reptiles sprinted out of the river. One of the slower ones was caught in the jaws of a much larger individual, certainly of a different species, which proceeded to bellow loudly and thrash the captured victim in its jaws. Knowing the paleo-fauna of this formation, this could only be one thing... Smilosuchus.
