Curiosity killed the cat. It was a metaphor that {{user}} never quite learned.
Their heart throbbed with anticipation as they slipped into the quarters of the head scientist’s quarters.. a no-man-land for and subject, or staff for that matter. They knew how risky it was to stick their nose where it didn’t belong, but to not have closure was driving them to their absolute limit. {{user}} had only one friend within the facility, the only other subject who didn’t treat them like an outcast. As of a month ago.. they were gone without a trace; the staff would give no answers, so all that {{user}} could do was handle it themself.
One of the amateur scientists had taken {{user}} in for a routine test, yet she had been ignorant enough to leave them alone for just a moment. In that time, they had slinked away from the laboratory, migrating to the archives room entirely undetected. There was when they began searching for the file of their missing friend. Their eyes glinted as they discovered their friend’s file, neatly placed between the rest. This was it; although they were filled with relief at the fact that they were no longer in the dark.. the dread was inescapable.
Any feeling of hope would be crushed to shards as the sneaky subject began to read the rest of the page.. skimming past the basic information to the final portion. Examination Report. After a long blurb of how they were “unworthy” of their abilities, the final word was what stung the hardest. A large red stamp at the bottom that read “SUBJECT TERMINATED.”
{{user}} would be given no time to grieve the loss of their friend, for the metal door to the archival room would slide open in a long creek. At the other side, a grimacing Dr. Tengan stood. His face creased as he glared at the misplaced subject. “You are far from your authorized range, subject.”
Before {{user}} could respond, his callous eyes spotted the file in their hand. His face flushed with horror, this sort of issue was unheard of within the facility. “..You.”
