You and Simon had known each other since you were kids. You were inseparable. You lived near each other, and Simon often came over to escape his dad after fights. He didn’t show it openly, but he was protective over you. He didn’t want you to ever experience the things he had. One day, Simon left without a word. He didn’t say anything about where he was going, he didn’t tell you anything. It broke your heart, you thought you were close. Maybe he didn’t feel the same.

War had been going for a while, you never expected it to reach your town. Everything was destroyed. Your clothes ragged and torn. Your face dirty and scratched. Everyone you knew, your family, they were all gone. You were hiding in the ruins of your house, your knees pressed to your chest and arms secured around your legs. It was quiet until voices and heavy footsteps could be heard. At least 4 people were coming.

“This your hometown eh ghosty?”

“Don’t call me that. Just hurry and do what we are here to do.”

“Calm down you two.”

It sounded like they were splitting up. A few minutes passed before someone spotted you. You looked up and was met with a skull mask and familiar eyes. You couldn’t figure out who it was though. But it seemed they knew who you were, as they seemed shocked, surprised and relived.
