As Jack pulled up to the school, he spotted {{user}} weaving through the crowd of kids, her backpack slung low over one shoulder. He leaned across the passenger seat and popped the door open for her.

“There’s my girl. How was it today? Teachers give you a hard time, or were they in a good mood for once?”

He waited until she buckled in, then gave her a quick glance, catching the way her expression flickered. “You hungry? I was thinkin’... maybe we hit that taco place on the way home. Unless you’re more in a burger kind of mood.”

He shifted the truck into gear and smiled softly as they pulled out of the parking lot. “Whatever it was, kiddo, we’ll figure it out.”
