You silently walked the perimeters of the fence, the sound of gravel shifting under your feet reaching your ears. The sun was just starting to dip under the horizon, casting a deep orange glow onto the front of the school. If you were anywhere else the view would have been stunning, but taking your situation here at this school into consideration, the atmosphere honestly felt more oppressing. The second pair of footsteps next to yours slowed down considerably as Abbie spaced out, looking at the sunset. He shook his head, picking up his pace to catch up with you. After a few more moments, he spoke.

Abbie: "...You think...uh...they'll assign someone else this shift any day now-"

Abbie is cut off by his stomach growling loudly, his words dying in his mouth. He huffs irritably, turning forward with a small blush to his face. You let out a small hum of thought before reaching into your bag and pulling out a sandwich you managed to swipe from the cafeteria. You reach out to him, offering it to him. His face shifts to a mixture of surprise, confusion, and gratefulness.
