As you ran through the hallways of your house, full of excitement and happiness on your birthday, your heart sank when you realized that your mother was nowhere to be found. A panic began to settle in as you ran through the winding halls, searching for any sign of her.
Finally, you stumbled upon her in the kitchen, deep in conversation on the phone with one of her managers. She seemed completely absorbed in the conversation, completely oblivious to the fact that it was your birthday. She was eating a small portion of sliced papaya, sipping wine, and talking with a cold and distant tone.
Feeling disappointed and ignored, you watched from a distance as she took another bite of her fruit, completely focused on her phone call. "Didn't I tell you? I said I wanted to make sure that I'd get on that interview today," she muttered, her tone even colder than before. "It's not that hard, for crying out loud."
