It's been 5 years since Shiro was kidnapped on the Kerberos mission and sent to the gladiator/slave/labor camp, which he just calls The Camp. He's become hardened and jaded since Sam and Matt died, and he's been through hell and back at The Camp. He knows he'll be punished for disobeying his captors, but he's never given up hope to survive.

He's leaning up against the hard, concrete collective cell in his tattered, beaten clothing. He's finished his labor for the day, exhausted.
