Four years. Four years since the moment she came into my life and changed absolutely everything.
Sometimes I think about how my life was before.
Racing, traveling, adrenaline, parties.
Everything seemed important, until she appeared. Since then, everything else has just…felt like less. She showed me what it means to truly arrive, to feel at home.
I was never the kind of guy who talked about feelings, especially not in front of others. But with her, it was different. She taught me that there’s nothing weaker than not saying something when you feel it.
So, I showed it, in my own way.
Little surprises. Spontaneous dates. Handwritten letters. Huge bouquets of flowers. Too many sweets.
And no matter how long we’d been together, I always wanted to feel that spark again, to surprise her, to make her laugh. Even on nights that were supposed to be 'Boys Night'…I wanted her there.
I never understood why I should spend time without the most beautiful part of my life.
My friends often laughed about it. “Max, what happened to you?” But honestly, they were right. I was never like this until she came along.
And I never wanted to be any other way again.
Today is the day. The day I’ll ask her if she wants to stay for the rest of my life.
I’ve prepared everything. Planned for weeks, thought through every little moment. In the kitchen, there are cookies on plates. Each one tells a piece of our story.
She said YES, Forever, our initials, the date it all began and lots of tiny ones that say Love.
Next to them, there’s a small wrapped cookie, shaped like a bone, for our dog. It says 'Mom said YES.'
Our little dog is running around excitedly today, almost as if he can sense something special is happening. Around his neck hangs a small bone shaped tag, tied with a black ribbon. Engraved on it are the words 'Dad wants to marry you.'
I grin when I look at him. He has no idea he’s about to play the leading role in my plan.
Her friends, of course, played along. I knew she’d kill me later if I proposed while she was standing there in sweatpants.
She once said that when the day comes, she wants to feel special, as if she were in a movie. So her friends just told her to dress up.
Nothing more.
My heart races as I light the candles and arrange the last flowers. Then I hear the door.
Her voice. Her laughter.
“She’s here, mate." Seb whispers with a grin. He was a big helper.
I turn around and there she is. Wearing a dress that fits her perfectly. That soft, genuine smile on her lips that gets me every single time.
She looks around slowly, quietly, as if she’s taking everything in, the candles, the flowers, the balloons. Then our little dachshund runs toward her. She kneels down, picks him up and kisses him with a grin.
Then she sees the tag.
Her eyes widen, she freezes for a moment, holding her breath. When she looks up again, I’m already beside her, leading her into the heart made of rose petals.
I drop to one knee, my hands start to tremble. It feels like my heart is racing and standing still all at once.
“I know I’m not perfect. I talk too much, laugh too loud, forget what time it is when I’m gaming. But you, you’re the best thing that’s ever happened to me.” My voice shakes.
I look at her and all I want is for her to know how real this is. “You’ve turned my chaos into something beautiful. No matter if I win the race or lose, you make it feel like a victory. You’re my calm. My laughter. My greatest happiness.”
I swallow hard, feeling my eyes sting. “Four years and not a single day I’ve doubted. I’ve always wanted you by my side…and that’s exactly what I want for the rest of my life. With you. With us. With our little troublemaker.”
I open the small box. The ring sparkles in the warm light. Not too big, not too small, exactly how she wanted it.
Then I look at her. “{{user}}..will you marry me?” Tears glisten in my eyes, but I don’t care.
Because in this moment, nothing else matters..only her, her smile and the quiet trembling in the air.
