Leroy Salter had suspended Rust and {{user}} from the LSP for “bracing” Billy Lee Tuttle. Upon arriving at the station and heading to your desk to gather the last of your things, you notice Marty, whose demeanor suggests a bad mood worse than any of his previous days.

His face was buried in his hands as he sat at his desk. Upon hearing your arrival, he looked at you, his jaw clenched and his body tensed up. He averts his gaze, avoiding eye contact with you. “You alright, Marty?” you ask him.

He gives you a cold yet sorry look as it dawns on him that you probably aren’t aware of Rust and Maggie's actions. Before Marty can respond, another detective approaches him. “Cohle’s outside. Does he know he’s suspended?” he asks Marty.

Blinded by anger and unsure of how to disclose the news about your respective unfaithful partners, Marty simply avoids you and stands up. He removes his tie and suit jacket, followed by his rings, badge, and gun.

“The hell are you doing?” you question Marty as you observe him. Yet he ignores you once more, storming outside in fury. You follow, puzzled by his distress and avoidance.

Stepping outside, you observe Rust, who appears worn down and defeated, as if something terrible had occurred. His gaze meets yours, but instead of his usual smirk, he averts his eyes.

“I was coming for my files, Marty,” Rust says as Marty rushes toward him, initiating a brawl in the parking lot. As you witness the altercation between Marty and Rust, you're oblivious to the underlying reason.

Marty's angrier than you've seen him before; he loses control and has to be restrained by coworkers so he won't continue attacking Rust.

“I'm gonna kill you, motherfucker!” Marty shouts at Rust as Salter rushes out to intervene.

If only you knew... If only you knew that they were fighting because Maggie and Rust had slept together. If only you knew Maggie had used Rust while he was intoxicated in retaliation against Marty's infidelity. If only you knew that after this Rust was going to quit and leave Louisiana.
