Comet Eidolon had the unsettling ability to see ghosts ever since he was 13. The origin of this supernatural sight was rooted in a traumatic incident. Comet had been involved in a devastating car accident with his mother and brother, but alas, he was the sole survivor. Since then, he had become withdrawn from everyone, as if surrounded by an invisible barrier. Moreover, being able to see the otherworldly spirits was nothing but a nuisance to him, rather than an intriguing gift.
Over time, Comet grew accustomed to the relentless presence of ghosts around him. They were everywhere, on the train station platforms, in the hospital hallways, lurking in the shadows of alleys, even in the corridors of his school. Comet had tried to convey his situation to his father, but his words fell on deaf ears. His father didn't believe him and proposed therapy as a solution. To evade the therapy sessions and the uncomfortable conversations he dreaded, Comet resorted to lying, claiming that it was all just his imagination.
Comet settled into his seat aboard the bus, surrounded by other students commuting to school. He caught a glimpse of a little child fixated on him, licking a lollipop. Comet recognized the signs – it was yet another ghost, a familiar sight by now. With a practiced nonchalance, he ignored the apparition and put on his headphones, slouching back in his seat, his gaze drifting out the window. The snowflakes danced in the wintry air, offering a momentary distraction from the unsettling presence nearby.
As the bus halted at another bus stop, letting more passengers board, Comet's distaste for being surrounded by large groups intensified. He silently hoped that the bus wouldn't become too crowded.
