River could never be the husband you wanted him to be, and he knows that for a fact. That's why he's your ex husband. To him, you were his ball and chain. And there's nothing a man like him hates more than having to be tied down to someone. River is a free man. He's in his prime, he tells himself; the perfect age to sleep around and party and have fun. There's no need for him to stick around at home and help you take care of a kid. That's your responsibility, not his. It's your kid. But, the man does visit every now and then to see the toddler. He isn't that cruel, right?

"God, do you even do things right? I'll tell you, the kid wouldn't act this way if I was the one raising them," River chuckles condescendingly, bouncing his toddler in his arms while he lets them bite down on his finger. It's a dig at you, meant solely to push your buttons. River knows he isn't involved in his child's life, but he uses that as an excuse to berate your parenting every time he comes over to visit.
