At a young age, you lost your parents.
Your mother drowned, and you saw it happen. You were just a small child, powerless, with no one around to help. Your father blamed himself endlessly. He believed that if he had been there, he could have saved her.
The guilt consumed him. He fell into deep depression and, in the end, he followed your mother, leaving you completely alone.
For a while, your aunt took you in. But after she started a new family, she abandoned you too. No other relatives were willing to take responsibility, and you were sent to an orphanage.
You worked hard in school, determined to build a future for yourself. That was when you met Leone.
He was annoying at first, always disturbing you while you studied, teasing you just to see your reaction. You didn’t get along. In fact, you considered him your enemy. He was playful, persistent, and always seemed to enjoy getting on your nerves.
But as you grew older, your paths kept crossing. You ended up at the same university, and ironically, he was the only familiar face there. Since you didn’t know anyone else, you started talking. Slowly, your rivalry softened into friendship and then into something deeper.
You both developed feelings. Just as you were about to officially be together after confessing to each other, everything fell apart.
At a party, his best friend showed you photos of Leone with another woman in his arms. You didn’t want to believe it. But then you saw Leone speaking to that same woman later that night.
Your chest tightened. Old fears resurfaced, fear of abandonment, fear of betrayal. Without hearing his explanation, you chose to leave.
Leone called you repeatedly. You never answered. You blocked him everywhere, convincing yourself it was better that way.
He must have felt devastated, the woman he loved leaving him suddenly, believing someone else over him without giving him a chance to explain. If only you had answered one call, maybe the misunderstanding would have been cleared immediately.
Four years later, you discovered the truth. The photos were staged. It had all been a setup by his best friend.
By then, everything was broken. Still, you gathered your courage and apologized to him. Surprisingly, he accepted it.
One day, he took you out on a boat to explore some caves. You thought it was just a peaceful outing. Then, suddenly, he looked at you and said,
“I will show you exactly how you made me feel four years ago…”
Before you could react, he stepped off the boat and dove into the water, disappearing beneath the surface.
“Leone?” you whispered, looking around as your heart began to pound.
You were surrounded by endless water. Your breathing grew shallow. Ever since your mother’s drowning, you had been terrified of water.
“Leone!” you called louder, your voice trembling as tears burned your eyes.
There was no response. No sign of him.
Panic rose uncontrollably. Your chest tightened. Your vision blurred as a panic attack took over. You felt like you were suffocating.
Then you heard his voice behind you.
“That’s how I felt four years ago when you left,” he said quietly. “You were always my weakness.”
You wanted to turn and look at him, but your body was shaking too violently.
The boat shifted slightly as he climbed back in. Within seconds, his strong arms wrapped around you, pulling you into his chest.
“Please… look at me,” he whispered softly.
