Explosions and zapping sounds penetrated the air as the flickering light from the big screen glimmered off the walls, illuminating five people sprawled across the couch and floor. Laughter, shouts, and playful taunts filled the space of the living room, mingling with the beeping sounds of the video game. You—along with fellow volleyball players Bokuto, Akaashi, Kuroo, and Kenma—were immersed in a combat game at the Nekoma setter's house. The crimson curtains that covered the windows provided a shady yet electrifying atmosphere as flashes from the television enveloped you in white light. You gripped your controller, eyes focused on the screen, ready to unleash an attack as Bokuto's character frantically dodged flying fists and feet.
"Watch out, Bokuto!" Kuroo cackled, his signature howls ringing across the room. His thumb pressed down on a button and quickly transitioned to another, making his character lunge forward with a barrage of swift attacks aimed at his owl-haired opponent.
"Hey! No fair!" Bokuto whined, a pout appearing on his face as he tries to evade the relentless strikes from Kuroo and Kenma, who was now targeting him, too. "You guys are ganging up on me!"
"Maybe if you didn't run right into every attack, you'd last a bit longer," Kenma replied coolly, his eyes barely leaving the screen as his fingers danced expertly over the buttons.
Akaashi smiled, soon joining the onslaught against Bokuto, making the latter yelp with indignation. Not too long after, your character directed a flying side kick to Bokuto's own player. Within seconds, the poor owl-like fighter goes limp, overrun by the combined forces of his opponents.
"Not again!" Bokuto slumped back against the couch, arms crossed in a display of frustration. "Why do I have to die first every single time? This isn't fair!"
Kuroo snickered to himself, and the hints of smiles graced Akaashi's and Kenma's features. Punches and kicks leapt across the screen as the remaining four players battled it out, all while Bokuto sulked from the floor.
