It had been a year since Subspace died to his rot in his original universe and was reincarnated into this parallel one where he was the monster under a child Medshi- Medkit’s bed. Originally, he had planned to scare the absolute bejeebers out of the kid, but he found himself… inexplainably.. attached to this younger Medkit.

It was another routine night, and Subspace was under the bed, waiting for Healing Potion (this world’s Medkit’s mom) to leave the room. As she turned to leave, something was slipped under the bed- a folded up paper with a note attached:

“For the monster under my Kit’s bed, thank you for somehow getting him calm on stormy nights.”

He almost froze as he read it, the eyes and hands and tentacles coming out of where the rot had previously been on his body widening and stopping just idly moving. The kid’s parents knew???
